About RBN

RBN is a large VRChat partnered community built around a fairly simple idea: There should always be somewhere to go. If your friends are offline, everyone you know is busy, or you simply want to meet new people, you should be able to log in and find something happening. At any given time, we have dozens group and group+ age-verified instances running across VRChat - typically over 60 every night. Some are game worlds. Some are social spaces. Some are movie worlds. Others are tied to events, music, or whatever happens to be popular at the time. RBN is not centered around one activity, one scene, or one type of person. It is meant to be a common space: somewhere people can return to regularly, whether they arrive with a group of friends or know nobody there at all. We are consistently there, always available, and always a place you can come home to. RBN is jokingly short for "Rather be Nonchalant" due to its laid back atmosphere and lack of staff clique. Everyone is low key here!

RBN aims to provide a safe environment while not micromanaging individual interactions or content. We focus on behavior that actually causes problems. We are not interested in creating rules for the sake of having rules, or in policing harmless behavior that nobody is objecting to. People should be able to relax, joke around, express themselves, and enjoy the platform without feeling constantly watched. We moderate for safety, not control and we don't actively look for "problems" to solve. If one of our over 300 moderators sees something that breaks our rules, they will act - but for the most part we follow VRChat's own moderation system. We follow up on reports of issues, and act when appropriate. A considerable amount of infrastructure exists behind the scenes to make that possible. We have built systems for moderation, reporting, instance management, analytics, and other operational needs that come with running a community at this scale. Most members will never interact with those systems directly, and that is intentional.

RBN is VRChat's most active community. By "Active", we mean that we host more instances consistently and have more people in those instances than any other group on the platform. Typically, a little over 1% of all logged in users are in our instances during our peak times. A large member count does not mean much if nobody is actually participating. What matters to us is how many people are present, how many instances are active, how often people return, and whether the community gives people a reason to keep coming back.

Recently, RBN has greatly expanded its role by giving a platform to aspiring and already established DJs - RBN's Mainstage was one of the largest free events ever to happen on the platform - with 1018 concurrent users watching the show in RBN instances at peak and over 5300 visits to Mainstage during the event. The venue is cutting edge, with highly advanced light, sound, and shader design all working together to create a memorable show experience akin to festival venues like Tomorrowland. We are looking forward to continuing producing high-quality, free worlds and events for the whole community to enjoy.
